The Spirit Realm (as seen in " Spirted Away" by Studio Ghibli) is a world that is tied to the Human World, where the spirits of Japanese folklore inhabit. May that be radish spirits, gods of the river, witches, and demons. Due to the Spirit Realm lacking in techology, beings of the world can partake in magic and other supernatural ventures. The major highlights of this destination are a result of its magic filled world and mysterious happenings.
This gives the Spirit Realm a bustling atmosphere with its crowded nightlife. Otherworldly creatures roam around with a variety of restaurants, and architectural structures making it a special traveling spot. The sight seeing locations are quite unique as the architecture of the world is based on both Edo Period (1603-1868) and Meiji Period (1868-1912). During the Edo Period, economic growth was evident, as well as the expansion of art and culture. Following that the Meiji Period is known as the “restoration” era where economic and political growth occurred due to social changes. Alongside, the modernization and westernization occured during Japan’s social evolution. Hayao Miyazaki (director and writer for "Spirited Away" at Studio Ghibli ) used these as a basis for creating the shops, houses, and a variety of destinations within the film. The blend of traditional Japanese customs and elements of western culture gave rise to the studio's unique depication of the Spirit Realm.
