From the Do's and Don'ts of Web Design, provide a link to an example of a violation of number 6 (clickable elements are not obvious)
In this article, violation no. 6 states how you should "never sacrifice usability for the sake of beauty." I found that the websites on this page violates rule no. 6 The elements are all over the place with little clarity on what does what. This makes it difficult for viewers to know what is useable on the site, versus what is purely for visual aesthetics.
From the Better User Experience Through Storytelling Articles: How can framing your project in a story format help you refine your ideas?
Storytelling has often followed a formula which helps grab the attention of the audience and keeps them engaged. By framing our projects in a story format, it can similarly captivate the consumers like typical storytelling. This will help us find ways to refine our project as we keep our audience and their attention in mind.
From Meet Your Type: A Field Guide to Love and Typography: What are different ways to establish hierarchy (or emphasis) in typography design?
Hierarchy can be established with the use of specific typefaces, sizes, and how the typeface is presented will all contribute to creating emphasis. Mixing typefaces that compliment each other can make the design appealing but also easy to read. Size can draw the audience’s attention to specific elements before the other elements present. Lastly, with the use of alignment, leading, kerning, and tracking, can help with the presentation of the typeface which also affects its readability. An example of hierarchy I found is this Rocky Poster . It has different sized texts to lead our eyes to key elements and supporting elements. The typeface color for Rocky compared to the other text is a cream color to give it emphasis. Additionally the sharpness of the typeface helps bring it together with a jagged edged visuals. This all comes together to make the font stand out and establish a relationship between all of these elements. Additionally, the visual of the stairs also leads our eyes to the important parts of the poster.
ATEC's Animation Courses: A No Non-Sense Review. As a senior in ATEC, I've taken virtually all the level I animation courses and more. My time here has given me the opportunity to know professors, the kind of animation cirrculum provided at UTD, and how life is like when taking more than two lab courses.
The website I propose for the semester project, is one that gives a student's perspective on taking animation courses at ATEC. The purpose for this site is to aid those who may be interested in this major. Whether that be incoming freshman, transfer students, or anyone else who wants to know more about the animation program at UTD. It can be daunting to pick out classes as it is, however, for many, college is the first time they have the chance to take classes related to animation. This can add an extra level of uncertainity. Therfore, the target audience is specifically those unfamiliar with ATEC's animation program and want to have more information on whether this is something they want to pursue.
While there are official UTD sites with information on ATEC courses, I believe the my competition for making such a site is low. The official sources are mostly listings of class objectives, but it doesn't account for a student's schedule, and any other matters outside the course. Additionally, when it comes to a student's point of view, that is mostly found on random places on the internet such as, Reddit and Rate My Professor . By putting my experience with these classes in one place, it will give a cohesive overview of the animation courses at UTD, instead of students trying to search around. The key message of this site is mainly to plan head, but don't stress too much about it. This site is meant to provide additional insight into the program, giving people a better idea of what to do. My call to action would be to explore your options. By having a brief on ATEC's animation courses, I hope it can encourage people to look for what works for them. If this course works for them, great. But, I also hope it can be eye opening to those who find this might not be the right fit for them. In terms of measuring success, as long as this site is able to help someone gain more information about chosing their major and classes, that achieves the main objective of this project.
