Assignment 1

Assigned Readings

In this week's readings, I learned there has been three phases of the web, many browsers continue to support old web standards, and certain special characters are written in specific ways when using HTML.
The article "Evolution of the Web" explains how there was Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. Each phase is characterized by the interaction between the webpage with the user. Web 1.0 is known as the "read-only web" where it lacked interactive content. During Web 2.0 the "read-write web" interaction grew and users could make content. Lastly, Web 3.0 known as the "read-write-execute web" where machine to machine interation became the forefront.
Next, in the article "The Wax and Wane of the Web" mentions that despite the evolution of the web, it is important to remember the old web standards as many browsers still support content made with those standards.
Lastly, in the article "Basic HTML Syntax," it explains how certain characters such as the greater than or less than symbols are written as “&tl” and “&gt”

Careers in Web Development

According to Coursea, a project manager is someone who is professionally trained to organize and oversee projects for various fields. Their role is to work with schedules, budgets, and resources avalaible in order to deliver projects. Moreover, they have to manage the team and coordinate communication in this process. Generally, project managers earn more than the average salary, but that factors in the industry they're working in, as well as their skills and experinece. Coursera states that some project managers can make around $89,000 to $98,000 for the most part. Many industries require a project manager such as architexture, fashion, computer science, government and more.
While researching, I found David Sokolosky who is a project manager at Pixar. His primary tasks include software development managment where he oversees the creation of software that assists the aniamtion studio. Sokolosky also educates workers on new technologies, evaluate what resources are needed to make the films, project costs and timeline. While I major in ATEC General, my main focus leans toward animation. I find it interesting to know more about different roles in the pipeline. Reading about Sokolosky's work as a project manager at Pixar provides me additional insight into the industry I'm looking to get into. Here is Sokolosky's social David Sokolosky's Linkedin

Semester Project

I'm still not sure what to do for the project, but I felt inspired by your former student who made a website on what to get for beginer nail artist. With that in mind, I was thinking I could make an informational site on something I'm knowledgeable about which would be animation courses provided at ATEC. Now that I'm a senior, I've taken virtually all the level I animation classes at ATEC, and some level II courses. I understand how picking classes can be a challange, so I could make a website to giving additional insight on the classes. In addition, I could discuss time managment and other topics related on how to work through multiple lab courses in one semester.
However, if this idea isn't the best fit for the project, I thought about discussing the basics of lighting and composition. This is the field I would like to go into after graduation, so I have a fair amount of knowledge on the topic. I beleive I could make a introductory site on the subject, giving people who are interested some more information on what lighting and compositing really is.
